Board Games as Centerpieces

9:52 am by

I love to play board games!  Just last night the hubby and I were outside on the patio playing a mean game of Chinese Checkers (I lost.  He beat me by a whopping 3 moves).  In any case, playing board games with family and friends is always so much fun!  Bringing out a board game to play is much like having a baby in the room.  Everybody tunes in and it’s pretty hard not to smile and have a good time.

Whatever the game~ strategy, luck, skill, trivia, memory… everyone is usually interacting and laughing.  That said, how fun would it be to have simple board and card games as interactive centerpieces on your reception tables?  Each table could have a different set of games for guests to play.

Of course, you would probably want to choose games that are fun, easy to play, and are in good shape.  Risk might be a little too intense but fun, lighthearted games like Scrabble, Yahtzee, and Guess Who might be the ticket.  Your older guests might also really enjoy vintage games like Petticoat Junction or Password, etc.

Want to put all those board games sitting in your closet to a creative use?  If your closet is a bit bare, shop at garage sales or thrift stores for building your game inventory.  If you need a little assistance, here’s a site that offers a comprehensive list of board games to help familiarize with both new and old board games.

What’s your favorite board game?

If there were board games on the tables our competitive sides will keep us from shooting the wedding.

    GAMES? Did someone say games?

Settlers of Catan is a great board game!, gather resources, stone, wood and wool and build your roads and cites while preventing your oponents from doing the same!
Killer Bunnies and the Quest for the Magic Carrot is a fun game and with over 1000 cards in the series, it’s impossible to play the same game twice.
Gloom, a fun dark game, to win you have to kill off your “family” before your opponent kills off theirs!
On the lighter side, Infernal Contraption has you “bodging” (building) monster machines to annihilate your opponent.
Even More Fun is Munchkins! Enjoy a good Dungeon Crawl with really being a D&D nerd. Stab your buddy! Steal the loot! Kill the Monster!

    Have fun!

    cheers,
    Bob

This is such a great idea and also really unique for a proposal! I’ve had guys who’ve proposed via a wordsearch, crossword puzzle, scrabble, you name it. It’s always so personal and memorable. Great post!

@ the Feds~ I didn’t “get” your comment until I went to your site. Great photos btw. Love the puddle jumping and sitting at the diner shots, esp!

@Bob: You are too funny. Love your enthusiasm! I’ll be on the lookout for this one.

    THANKS

There is a local restaurant that uses this strategy - each table has a different game - and provides great fun during while you wait for your food.
